We are proud to announce the availability of a checklist of the Birds of Machalilla. This list is, as most of the lists of animals of Ecuador, an uncomplete list; but we think that it will show a little sample of the magnifiscent bird life of this coastal national park.

Located south of the province of Manabí, the Machalilla National Park holds many life zones such as the xerophitic forests and humid forests. Soon we will have added to our geographic data base a complete description and mapping of the national park.

This database and the magnifique illustrations acompaning it, is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Fernando Ortiz Crespo who passed away in 2001 while birdwatching in La Mica Lake close to Antizana. Dr. Ortiz inspired hundreds of students along his life. I am one of them.
